U18 FSCI Phoenix Scrimmages Bridgewater College

The U18 FSCI Phoenix Orange played Bridgewater College (NCAA Division 3) in a preseason scrimmage in Bridgewater VA on Thursday August 25. The match was played on the practice field of the Bridgewater College Women's soccer program. Although the U18 FSCI Phoenix lost the match 1-0, the event provided a unique and memorable experience for each of the players on the U18 FSCI Phoenix.

It is a rare opportunity for a youth travel soccer team to compete against a college team. The U18 FSCI Phoenix, consisting of players that are upperclassmen at the local area high schools, competed against older and more experienced players that compete at the NCAA Division 3 college level.

The format of the preseason scrimmage consisted of three 30 minute periods. Bridgewater College played a different starting 11 for each 30 minute period. The only goal of the match was scored by Bridgewater College in the 26th minute. The U18 Phoenix worked extremely hard during the match. The U18 Phoenix was able to create several scoring opportunities but could not convert due to Bridgewater's quick defense and goalkeeping.

This scrimmage against Bridgewater College was setup as part of the FSCI Phoenix College Recruitment Program. The program assists interested players that want to play at the college level. The college scrimmages provide the players an opportunity to better understand the level of committment and play at the collegiate level. The U18 FSCI Phoenix will scrimmage Randolph Macon College on Monday August 29.
